Colorado's Warm Water Lakes and Reservoirs

Two of Colorado's warmest lakes include Lake Pueblo and Cherry Creek Reservoir. Both these lakes maintain warm water temperatures late in the season while other Colorado waters are growing colder. Unlike some of Colorado's larger bodies of water that are fed by rivers bringing snowmelt and cold water down from the mountains, the warmer lakes stand out as such due to geographic location, or because they are reservoirs created in areas meant for recreational use. Water temperature in both locations remains in the 70s and 80s well into September and even later.

Top Spots for Warm Water Fishing

Both Boyd Lake State Park and Horsetooth Reservoir in Northern Colorado are known as warm water sources that offer great fishing opportunities in September and October. Boyd Lake State Park is another great place to swim and enjoy water activities through September, while Horsetooth Reservoir is a thriving environment for several types of fish with warmer water temperatures compared to several bodies of water through September and October.
