The Good Life: The 10 Safest Places to Live in Colorado in 2023
Where is the safest place to live in the state of Colorado? Crime rates have risen in our state over the last decade causing many Coloradans to become more selective when selecting communities they may want to live in.
In 2012, Colorado was ranked 31st in the nation for crime. Since then, the Centennial State's property and violent crime rates have both increased. According to Federal Bureau of Investigation data, Colorado's crime rate is now the 4th highest in the country.
Colorado Crime Rates
Common Sense Institute released a snapshot of Colorado's crime data from last year. In 2022, our state was ranked 3rd in the nation for property crime, and 8th overall for violent crime. CSI used FBI data to look at Colorado cities with at least 100,000 residents and determined the worst city for violent crime in Colorado over the past year was Pueblo, Colorado.
Colorado's Safest City in 2023
The award for Colorado's safest city goes to the community of Brush, Colorado. Located in Morgan County, the crime rate in Brush is 93% lower than the national average.
Western Colorado's Safest City in 2023
The city with one of the lowest crime rates in Western Colorado is the city of Fruita. The home safety and security company Safewise lists Fruita, Colorado, as the 16th safest community in the state. Fruita only sees about two violent crimes per 1000 residents, and about ten property crimes per 1000 residents.
