On Friday, June 26, it rained in Grand Junction for the first time since May 19. That's 38 days without moisture. By the following morning, the Bureau of Land Management had confirmed as many as eight wildfires burning in Mesa County.

Lightning strikes began two major fires in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, along with several smaller fires. Further south, lightning strikes have also set fire to Gold Mountain outside of Ouray, making this a trying weekend for Western Slope firefighters.

Their identities were not released to the public over the weekend. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
