Here Are 3 Notable Loveland Projects Coming in 2026
Many cities and towns in Colorado spend money not only to fix aging infrastructure, but to help with safety and beautifying the city. Loveland has more than a few projects lined up for 2026, including three that caught our attention.
City of Loveland to Widen Highway 34 to Three Lanes Where There are Only Two
As of the beginning of 2026, there is a a traffic "bottleneck" on westbound Highway 34/Eisenhower between Fall River Drive (by In-N-Out & Panera) and Boyd Lake Avenue.
In the summer of 2026, they'll begin adding a third westbound lane to Highway 34 between Fall River Drive and Boyd Lake Avenue. That's "Phase 1" of the widening project.

Not only will this help with traffic, but they'll also be installing a desperately needed sidewalk along the northside of Highway 34. In the summer of 2027, they'll work on the eastbound lanes from Boyd Lake Avenue to the interstate.
How Much Will the Widening of Highway 34 Cost?
The total budget for Phase 1 of the project is over $3.5 million, including just over $1 million coming from Loveland's General Fund and over $2.2 million coming from a Federal Grant.
Former Building Destroyed By Fire Became a Park in Downtown Loveland
At the corner of Lincoln Avenue and 4th Street in Downtown is a little park, Thompson Pocket Park, named after Ted and Mabel Thompson, who helped establish Loveland as "The Sweetheart City."
Before it became a [mostly] concrete and brick park, it was home to the two-story Palmer Building which, among other things, held a French bakery/pastries shop and an arcade (Pinball Palace.) The building caught fire and burned down on Easter Sunday in 1988.
What's Happening with Thompson Park?
In October of 2026, the City will begin completely revamping Thompson Park. Pavers will match what they're doing on 4th Street, there'll be areas for playin chess and other games, a food truck lane, seating, lighting for safety, and plenty of art.

City of Loveland to Address Pedestrian/Bike Safety in Downtown
Not far east of Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Loveland, is Washington Street, which is part of the recreation trail that goes through town. As of the beginning of 2026, there is a Pedestrian Crossing Signal, that has been there for a few years, to help pedestrians and cyclists get across busy 1st Street.
How Much For the New Signal at Washington Avenue and 1st Stret?
In the fall of 2026 the City will install an actual traffic signal for better safety and traffic flow. On the bright side, they won't be installing another roundabout for the city there. This project budget is $775,000 total, with $370,000 coming from the City and the other $405,000 coming from a Federal grant.
