Jax Closing One of Their 2 Locations in Loveland
Though they didn't start out as a Colorado outdoor gear retailer, it's always felt like JAX has been a part of the Colorado family. JAX has decided that they may have bit off more than they can chew in Loveland.
JAX Shutters East Loveland, Colorado Location
It came as a surprise in February of 2025, to find out the JAX (which started out in Ames, Iowa in 1955) was going to be shutting down their east Loveland location, near Sam's Club and Home Depot by the end of summer 2025.
They'd decided to consolidate their Loveland efforts to just the one store on the west side of town in the former Kmart spot. It's sad that they're closing down one of their stores; it's also sad to think of a another "big empty" in Loveland.
The JAX in east Loveland was very big, especially with the expansion they did, creating an "outlet" store on their west side.
It's hard, for me, to believe that the east JAX first opened in 2008; It really doesn't seem like it had been there that long. The Reporter-Herald reminded me that they took over what was a Shopko at the location.
What will go into the big space, next?
In the end, it does make good business sense, that if you're going to close down one of the two JAX in Loveland, you should keep the westside one (which opened in 2020) open.

That old Kmart location is further away from Scheel's, which is a big competitor, and it's a good stop for folks heading the Big Thompson Canyon.
When is the End, and What's Next for East JAX in Loveland?
While the east Loveland JAX begins the process of leaving that spot, which they estimate closing at the end of June 2025, Lovelanders have to wonder what will become of the spot.

Will we see people hoping for a grocery store? Maybe some sort of family entertainment center, there in the middle of town? Perhaps Loveland Laser Tag could take over the spot?
