Fort Collins’ Most Underrated Sandwich Shop Has Been Open Over 45 Years
Fort Collins has many, many great restaurants; from burger joints to fancy "sit down" places. One sandwich shop in town has lasted over four decades, all while remaining family owned and operated.
There's just something about a great sandwich: a tasty handheld meal that satisfies your hunger and your tastebuds. It's even better when you're not at a chain restaurant; a local spot that's been around "forever" bringing their years of experience to each order. Fort Collins has a few places like that; one, open since 1979 can get overlooked.
It's hard to believe that Deli Works in Fort Collins has succeeded all this time. From two recessions, the pandemic, and the boom of Subway. Add in the fact that they are so far south in Fort Collins, generations of people have made them a "destination dining" experience. They have to be doing something right, wouldn't we agree?

Ray Alman opened Deli Works in 1979 there at 6001 South College. When you read about Ray, you find that just about every mention of him talks about how could remember so many people's names; like a human rolodex. The Alman family continues to run the shop, cooking up great sandwiches, soups (get the Hungarian Mushroom) and tasty desserts.
Seriously: With all the restaurants (big and small) in Fort Collins, the fact that this place, so far south of the heart of the city, has endured is amazing. So many people have worked there, then brought their own families in for great food and atmosphere. When people talk about the great places to eat in Fort Collins, they shouldn't overlook this local legend.
