When is It Too Cold to Swim in Colorado?
The first day of summer technically isn't until June 21, but most people consider it summer now, and the temperatures are reflecting that. It has already gotten in the high 90s in parts of Colorado, and even triple digits in some places. When it gets warm out, many enjoy lying around the pool to get some sun, taking a dip to cool off, and enjoying being in the water. While many usually get in when it is in the 90s, that isn't the norm in Colorado. Many hit the pool well before it gets that hot. At what temperature is it acceptable to go swimming in Colorado, because it might not be what you think.
When is it Hot Enough to swim in Colorado?
I have lived in a few different states in my life, and typically when it gets to the mid to high 80s is when I like to swim in these states, but in Colorado, it appears to be a different standard. These past couple of weeks, pools have been packed around the Centennial State as temperatures have been in the 80s and 90s, but the pools were seeing visitors long before that. In my time here, I have noticed that as long as the sun is shining, there aren't many clouds, and the temperature is about 65 degrees, people will flock to the pool to lay out or even take a dip. As someone who hates being cold, it amazes me how people walk into these pools without a reaction, despite it being below 80 degrees.
Swimming in Colorado
With winter being so long, and many having adjusted to the cold and higher elevation here, perhaps it is normal to go swimming when it is only 70 degrees. There are limited warm days in Colorado, and with many use to the cold, 70 degrees may feel warm to many from the area. Laying out is one thing. Sprawling out in a bathing suit to get a nice tan isn't a big deal on a nice spring day, but getting into the pool is different, yet many do so on days that would not be considered 'swimming temperature'. When is it acceptable to go into a pool? How warm does it have to be before you jump in?

No matter what the ideal temperature is, we can all agree that the next couple of months are swimming season, and be prepared to see pools, lakes, and rivers crowded every weekend, and even on weekdays as well. Enjoy swimming season while you can, because before you know it, the temperatures will dip again, and the question is, how long until the last swim of the year?
