It has been a while since we have been able to celebrate a holiday. The last holiday on the calendar was nearly two months ago when the country celebrated 250 years of independence on the 4th of July. Since then, there have been no holidays for people to enjoy time out of the office, time with their family, or long weekends. That will change this weekend as summer will unofficially come to an end, college football will kick off officially, and we will all get a three-day weekend for Labor Day. With the holiday taking place this weekend, it is nice to know what places will be open and what will be closed in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.

Whenever a holiday takes place, there are some places that close that you may not think of. Some are obvious, but other places you may not realize are not open. One of the most surprising places to close on Labor Day is Costco. The big retail chain has been closing for years so their employees can enjoy the holiday, and this is one of the reasons many enjoy working for them. While it could be a big day for sales, they decide their employees' happiness is more important. If you need to shop at Costco this holiday weekend, make sure to do so before Monday.

Most major retail stores will be open, including grocery stores, Walmart, and Target. There will be other places closed, though, that are not retail. If you are highly anticipating a package or mail, just a friendly reminder that it will not be arriving on Monday, as UPS, FedEx, and the US Postal Service will all be closed. All city offices in Fort Collins and surrounding Northern Colorado towns will be closed. The Museum of Discovery, recreation facilities, and transport offices will be closed for the holiday. Despite the transport office being closed, transport will still run on Labor Day. The Gardens of Spring Creek will be open, and City Park Pool will be open from 11 AM to 6 PM on Monday.
