Do you remember being a teenager in high school and pulling off pranks on your friends, your neighbors, or perhaps on strangers? We were all young once and likely have fond memories of doing things we know we shouldn't have done. This might include sneaking out, egging a house, messing with someone's decorations, wrapping a car in saran wrap, or some other fun prank. This took place back before cameras were everywhere, making it much easier to do these things. In 2026, is it safe to pull off pranks as a kid, and if you are a target, how would you react to someone doing one to you in Colorado?

Pranks Happening in Colorado

It is that time of year. It is homecoming, it is getting close to Halloween season, and pranks are beginning to happen around Colorado. If you haven't seen it yet, houses across parts of Colorado have been getting toilet papered, also referred to as TP'd. If you had a good childhood, odds are you TP'd someone's home at least once, if not more. Perhaps someone did it to your home when you were younger, and you had to help clean it up. It is a messy prank, but mostly harmless. The only thing to not like is having to clean it up. It was a common thing to do years ago, but it has lessened in popularity but appears to be happening once again, especially in Northern Colorado. In 2026, is it safe to pull off these types of pranks?

Are Pranks Safe in Colorado?

With doorbell cameras and security cameras on nearly every home these days, pulling pranks like TPing and ding-dong ditching are much tougher to do these days. We also live in a more sensitive society where many get upset when kids are being kids and doing these types of pranks. There have sadly been stories in the news over the last few years about homeowners coming out with guns and threatening children for harmless pranks, and in some extreme cases, have even fired. Why is it no longer ok to do these things when we once did them as children and found them fun? Shouldn't children today be able to have the same fun that we did without having to worry about their safety and life?

If you have a teenager that you think would TP or ding-dong-ditch someone, make sure to speak with them about the risks and to only target someone they know and to avoid doing so to a stranger's home. If you do become a target, don't get mad; instead, smile and be happy to see kids keeping the traditions alive of childhood pranks that every kid should experience in life.
