Last night “American Idol” had its first audience-determined eliminations and starting next week, the show will have a new song playing when they say goodbye to performers.  What song is it going to be?

This year’s exit song will be The Simple Minds classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” but a new version recorded by “Idol” alum, David Cook. People who pre-order his second album will get in instant download of the song.  It will be on sale on iTunes for the rest of the world on March 8th. Details are on David Cook's Official Website.

What are some of the past exit songs featured on "Idol?"

  • Daniel Powter - "Bad Day"
  • Daughtry - "Home"
  • Ferras - "Hollywood's Not America"
  • Graham Colton - "Best Days"
  • Ruben Studdard - "Celebrate Me Home"

I'm waiting for the day they start to use some humor in those goodbye songs and throw on something like Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust", Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye", or Styx's "Kiss your a** Goodbye." That would make for some classic TV moments!
