Hop Aboard Leadville Railroad’s Holiday Express Train Ride
It's been eight decades since Leadville's Railroad Holiday Express Train last took passengers for enchanting rides through the Rocky Mountains, but beginning November 19, the festive locomotive is back on track.
At 10,152 feet, the Leadville Railroad is the highest conventional railroad in North America. The beautiful scenery provides passengers with stunning, snowy views as they sit cozy as can be inside the toasty train.
According to 9News, the town of Leadville receives an average of around 154 inches of snow every year, which is why the train had to stop running for so many winters. Now, a lot has changed since the Holiday Express took its last trip in 1937, including some major upgrades, new features, and machinery that can better handle the elements. Plus, the cars are filled with lights and decorations that are guaranteed to put passengers in the holiday spirit.
The Holiday Express is a two-hour train ride with three insulated and heated lounge cars. The train can hold up to approximately 126 passengers per trip. Tickets are sold by the table – the Fir Table ($145) seats 1-2 people and the Spruce Table ($290) can hold up to 4 passengers. Reservations can be booked online.
There is also a concession car where guests can purchase hot and cold drinks including beer and wine, as well as a variety of snacks such as popcorn, candy, and chips.
The train schedule is below:
November 19-21 1:30 p.m.
November 26-28 1:30 p.m.
December 3-5 4:30 p.m.
December 10-12 4:30 p.m.
December 17-January 8 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
January 13-15 1:30 p.m.
It's exciting to see this holiday tradition back up and running once again!
