There isn't anything much scarier than the thought of getting a call about a family member having been kidnapped. Several Colorado families have received such calls, though fake, in separate locations.

There isn't much you wouldn't do to save a family member's life if it came down to it. If a member of your family were actually a kidnapping victim, and you had the means, you would probably give the perpetrator money.

Again, it's criminals preying on our fears in their hopes of getting cash.

There have been reports in both Colorado Springs and Grand Junction about scammers calling people claiming they've kidnapped a family member and demanding money.

One of the ways the criminals are adding "legitimacy" to the calls is by knowing a name of family member of the persons they're calling. You may have heard of how some criminals can actually make is sound like that family member is on the other line to also make it seem real.
