If you say you've never gotten stuck in traffic on S. College Ave. in Fort Collins - specifically in the right lane as you're approaching Raising Cane's - you're (more than likely) lying.

For those of us who have fallen victim to the ever-so-consistent hold up of traffic that is, ultimately, due to the overflowing Raising Cane's drive thru line that constantly pours out onto S. College - this is FABULOUS news:

The Fort Collins Raising Cane's, located at 2108 S. College Ave., is officially moving forward with plans to expand its drive-thru. The fast food restaurant's plans for an expanded, two-lane drive-thru were approved by the City of Fort Collins earlier this month, according to the Coloradoan.

In addition, the city also approved Raising Cane's plans to add an improved patio to the front of its building to offer patrons more space to dine outdoors.

"We're always looking for the best way to serve as many Caniacs as possible, faster, and that's what this construction will do," the restaurant said in an emailed statement.

Raising Cane's is in the beginning stages of the project's construction. However, a spokesperson for the restaurant chain declined to disclose a specific timeline regarding the project.

According to the Coloradoan, drive-thru related crashes at Raising Cane's increased from one in 2019 to five in 2020 — all of which caused property damage and three of which caused injuries; the drive-thru saw an increase in traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, there have been two drive-thru related crashes at the Fort Collins Raising Cane's.

Since the full reopening of Raising Cane's dining room back in the spring, the City of Fort Collins has continued to monitor backups at Cane's, and noticed a steady reduction in cars queuing and stacking up along S. College Ave.

I, for one, continue to get stuck in this traffic - and I cannot wait until this project is complete.
