Fort Collins is the safest city in America to drive in. At least that's the word from Allstate. This is the sixth year of their massive study in which they look at the largest 200 cities in our country to find out just where the safest drivers.

Or, more specifically, the places where accidents happen least frequently.

Who else made the top ten?

Allstate city rankings based on likelihood of a collision compared to the national average:

  • 1. Fort Collins, Colo. -31.2% less likely 14.5
  • 2. Chattanooga, Tenn. -22.7% less likely 12.9
  • 3. Boise, Idaho -22.3% less likely 12.9
  • 4. Colorado Springs, Colo. -20.0% less likely 12.5
  • 5. Knoxville, Tenn. -19.5% less likely 12.4
  • 6. Eugene, Ore. -18.3% less likely 12.2
  • 7. Reno, Nev. -18.2% less likely 12.2
  • 8. Huntsville, Ala. -18.1% less likely 12.2
  • 9. Lincoln, Neb. -17.9% less likely 12.2
  • 10. Cedar Rapids, Iowa -16.5% less likely 12.0

Coming in at the bottom of the list, Washington D.C., which was found to be the most accident prone of the cities studied.

Allstate has determined that Fort Collins, Colorado is the safest driving city in America based on the frequency of auto collisions according to the company's claims data.

Allstate determined that drivers in Fort Collins likely to get in accidents once every 14.5 years, making the city's accident likelihood roughly 31% lower than the national average. [Huffington Post]
