Five Chain Restaurants That I Miss in Fort Collins [Todd’s Top 5]
Fort Collins has always had great restaurants. Some of those great restaurants went away. I came up with a list of my favorite chain restaurants that I miss in Fort Collins. The list could have been 10 or 12. It is a very competitive market. Sometimes, even if it is a good restaurant, it doesn't last. These are my top 5:
5. Long John Silver's
I miss Long John Silver's. We don't have a fast food seafood place in Fort Collins anymore. We used to have a Skipper's and the Long John Silver's on South College. Long John Silvers was in the little building that was between Round the Corner and Dellenbach Motors near College and Swallow. My wife always loved the hush puppies. I miss the fish sandwich.
4. Hardees
Brian and I both worked at Hardee's before working at K99. I worked at the store at Cowan and Mulberry while I went to CSU. It is now a Carl's Jr. The reason I got a job at Hardee's is because I loved their Bacon Cheeseburger and I loved their home-made breakfast biscuits. My favorite part about that place was the people. I made some really great friends there.
3. Round the Corner
Round the corner is the 1st restaurant I ever ate at in Fort Collins. My Mom and I stopped there when we visited CSU. There was one in Campus West and we at at the one on College Avenue, just south of Swallow. The Round the Corner is now the Subaru dealership. I remember ordering my burger on a little red phone and they had more burgers than I had ever seen in my life. They were very good burgers.
2. Perkins
I was a little shocked when Perkins left. There used to be one by the mall the other was downtown on College Avenue between Olive and Magnolia. It is where we always went for late night dining. My wife always loved the potato pancakes. I loved anything breakfast related. We would usually go to the downtown store. I really do miss it.
1. Bennigan's
Bennigan's was always one of my favorite restaurants. It was on College Avenue at Remington. I used to walk there from my apartment when I lived on Remington. They always had the best Monte Cristo sandwich and their Death by Chocolate was to die for. I still remember the day the employees showed up for work and the doors were locked. I think the Fort Collins store did well, but the parent company was having some struggles, so they shut it down. It made me very sad.
Honorable Mention
My list could have been much longer. I miss Runza. I miss Black Eyed Pea. Honestly, it should have been on my list. Fort Collins doesn't have a Johnny Corino's anymore either. What do you miss?
