I had an epiphany the other day at the gym, I saw that nearly every male over the age of 50 had a watch on their wrist, even while working out! I think I managed to spot three other people in the entire place wearing wristwatches that didn't fit the male-over-50 demo.

It begged the question, who wears wristwatches any more?

I know a lot of people older than myself that say "they feel naked without a watch."

I, however, just don't think most people have the need for a watch anymore. I still own a handful of watches, and I actually like the way a lot of watches look, but I haven't put one one on in years. Let's face it, you have to adjust the strap, you have to replace the battery, and you have to...*gasp*...set the thing.

Nowadays 90-some percent of the people in our country have a cell phone with them most, if not all the time. Cell phones that not only tell the time, but automatically set themselves. On top of that there are clocks in computers, stoves, microwaves, cars, televisions, radios, etc...it kind of eliminates the need of toting around yet another piece of technology that does nothing more than tell time.

But somehow, every department store still has a section for watches, and high end watchmakers are still making a profit by selling high-end timepieces.
