Do You Know About Greeley’s Safe Haven Law?
For some children, it could be the difference between life and death.
The Greeley Fire Department sent out a reminder of their Safe Haven Law this weekend, and if you're not familiar, it allows a parent to hand over an infant up to 72 hours old to an employee at any fire station or hospital with absolutely no questions asked.
This law allows parents who might otherwise choose to abandon their child in a dangerous environment the ability to offer the child a safe foster home. The Greeley Fire Department shared the heartwarming photo (below) of Tyler Dodd, who is now 13 years old, and was given up by his biological mother to the Fire Department via this law years ago. A day later, Dodd was adopted, and now lives with his family, pictured alongside him:
