Derek Asks Beano to Be His Best Man in a Very Geeky Way [VIDEO]

So, just in case you didn't know, I got engaged last month and it was awesome. Beano and his wife helped me out with it and I don't think it would have went that well without them. Beano helped me out a lot with this whole planning thing and he has been a great friend so what better person to be my best man? As you may know, Beano and I are huge nerds and I wanted to come up with a way to ask him using that fact.

Now, here is kind of the funny part. On our way back from Denver after I proposed, I meant to send a text to my fiance asking, "Should I ask Beano to be my best man now, or wait?" The problem is I sent that text to Beano instead of her so I kind of spoiled the surprise... or did I? Of course he said yes to the text message, and I could have left it at that. But, that's not how I roll. I needed to officially ask him.

Beano and I are huge 'Transformers' nerds so I found a retro, generation 1 'Transformer' that luckily he didn't have, to "propose" to him with. I showed up to work, acted like I needed his help with something in my car and had a co-worker come out to film it. You can kind of see the look of confusion on his face when he turns around and looks at the camera. He didn't know they were filming.

I reach into my vehicle hit play on my iPod which I have cued up to a song from the original 'Transformers' cartoon movie, get down on one knee and present the toy. Luckily, he said yes!.
