A recent study conducted through the University of Colorado-Denver campus of College of Arts and Media finds that pop stars fade away after 6 years. Storm Gloor, an assistant professor at CU-Denver researched the popularity of artists who have had hits on the Billboard music charts over the last 50 years. They discovered artists usually maintain their presence on the music charts for 3.95 to 6.16 years.

Roughly a third of them fall into the “One Hit Wonder” category.

“The research is important to aspiring artists in understanding their own long-term planning in light of such realities,” said Gloor. “They need to know what they are facing as they start planning for their careers and beyond.”
