Tom Cruise Met With Jerry Bruckheimer About ‘Top Gun 2,’ And There’s a Photo to Prove It
We’ve heard about Top Gun 2 for several years now, but with the passing of original director Tony Scott and Tom Cruise’s consistently busy schedule, it’s hard to believe that it might actually happen. We may be closer to that long-developing sequel than ever before, as Cruise has met with producer Jerry Bruckheimer about Top Gun 2, and there’s photographic evidence to prove it.
Bruckheimer posted a photo on Twitter with a caption that’s sure to ignite the hopes of die-hard Top Gun fans:
Last summer, Cruise told Extra that he’d love to return for the sequel, but they’d have to find a way to avoid using CGI as the actor is determined to use practical effects for the jet sequences. And just last fall Val Kilmer said he’d been offered a chance to reprise his role in the sequel, stirring up the rumor mill once again.
It’s unclear who might direct Top Gun 2, but if Cruise is on board, the actor’s A-list stature and box office power puts him in a good position to attract the best possible director to the project. As of now, Cruise and Bruckheimer’s meeting doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be seeing Top Gun 2 anytime soon, though the project does remain in development and this is the most optimistic update we’ve gotten in a while.
Cruise is currently filming Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and is slated to appear in The Mummy reboot as well as Mission: Impossible 6, with both films scheduled to hit theaters in 2017 — which will keep him pretty busy for the rest of the year. He’s also set to star in Luna Park, a new sci-fi film from Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, which does not yet have a release date.
