Clearly, Colorado knows how to ball out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Out of all of the awesome places to celebrate in our state, this famous Colorado city is at the top of the list.

What's The Story Of St. Patrick's Day

While many of my peers celebrate it as a day to drink green beverages or pinch people not wearing green while playing hooky, there is a real historical reason why people celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17th each year.

Irish and Irish Americans (like me!) celebrate the 17th of March in honor of Patrick, who was a patron saint of Ireland. March 17th represents the day he passed away, but in true Irsuh form, we don't let that make us sad.

What was a more traditional day of horror in Ireland evolved as Irish immigrants moved to the United States into more of a celebration of Irish Culture. As of 2024, over 30 million people across the United States claim some sort of Irish descent, myself included.

With so many fun places to celebrate this Irish tradition across Colorado, one city stood tall above the rest as the best place to do it, and no, it's not Denver.

After looking at things like St. Patrick's Day traditions, costs, safety, weather, and more, WalletHub's research determined that once again, Fort Collins, Colorado, is the very best place to get wild over a mug of green beer. While dropping from number 27 last year, Ft. Collins still holds steady in the Top 40 in the nation at number 39.

The next best place to celebrate SPD in CO is in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which checks in at number 64 on WalletHub's list. Denver, surprisingly, was ranked number 68.  See the full 2024 Interactive Map below.

We know Lucky Joe's is always hopping on St. Patties Day, but most of Old Town will be buzzing as well. The only thing that would make it better is the old parade that used to run down College. Maybe someday they bring back the fun again... Happy St. Patrick's Day!
