Colorado Ranks in Top 10 of States With Most Small Businesses

As of this writing, there are 162,068 small businesses in the Centennial State. Though considered 'small,' such local businesses make up 95% of all U.S. businesses across the nation.

How many small businesses do you usually visit in a year? It's probably a lot, because a new study done by Construction Coverage found that Colorado came in seventh in the nation for the amount of small businesses per capita, which equates to 2.85 businesses for every 100 residents.

The study reports that small businesses with less than 50 employees account for 40% of our private-sector employment.

Locally, Fort Collins and Boulder have an even higher ranking in the study than the state's overall figures. Fort Collins has three small businesses per capita, and Boulder has 3.69.

The Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metro's data shows that with a total of nearly 3 million people, there are 2.74 small businesses per capita.
