'Hello muddah, hello faddah, here I am at Camp Granada..' Parents will be singing the classic as they drop their kids off at camp this summer.

I'm sure the kids could use a break from their parents as well, as the pandemic has had everybody enduring being cooped up with family. The time has come for kids to stay away. Sure, they'll be welcomed back with open arms, but for now, stay away.

I never 'went to camp' when I was a kid. I"m sure I missed out on a bunch of fun. I'm sure that my s'mores skills would be 'on point,' that's for sure. Colorado kids are cleared to stay overnight at the summer camps that the Centennial State has to offer.

The YMCA of Northern Colorado lists four signs that your kids may be ready for an overnight camp:

  • They follow rules.
  • They're showing an interest in camp.
  • They're comfortable doing new things and meeting new people.
  • They've had successful sleepovers.

I'm all but positive that summer camps are nothing like the hit movie 'Wet Hot American Summer,' but I'm guessing there is some truth behind the comedy.

Comedian Allan Sherman made this song after getting an actual letter from his own son while at Camp Champlain.  It still holds up!
