I witnessed the "branch removal" process at my house yesterday. The City of Fort Collins is working incredibly hard to clean up all the tree debris and branches left in piles around the city after last week's snowstorm

What a production!  It includes 1 large bulldozer with debris scraper, 1 smaller vehicle with huge teeth on the front, a new dump truck every half a block or so, a truck with cones, another small truck, 2 sign holders, numerous sweepers, a director and a truck pulling a trailer with a portable bathroom on it.  Yes, a bathroom, with all those people on site, they'll surely have to use the bathroom. See the pictures above and watch the video below to get a better idea.  It seemed that each pile of branches took a good 5-10 minutes to cleanup.  With the hundreds of piles in Old Town alone, it's going to take awhile.

THANK YOU CITY OF FORT COLLINS FOR DOING THIS FREE CLEANUP!!

The City has a zone map with a branch pickup schedule, each week is a new zone. Click Here to see the schedule.  Take advantage of this free service, as the trash companies will be charging to remove the branches if you leave them by your dumpster.  Here are some tips the City of Fort Collins has to offer.

General tips for curbside pick-up

  • There are no size restrictions for branches.
  • Residents do not have to wait for their scheduled week to move branches into the street.
  • Try to make a community pile of branches.
  • Avoid parking in the street the week of your scheduled neighborhood pickup.
  • Avoid blocking storm drains.
