Sometimes parents need to let their kids learn a few life lessons now-and-again. (Mom, Dad, I hate to break this to you, but odds are that your child isn't always the perfect little angel you picture them to be.)

Taking helicopter-parenting one step too far, a California father is suing his son’s school district for booting him from an honors English course for cheating. Dad says the kid deserves to cheat twice before getting in trouble!

This is absolutely ludicrous.

According to the Mercury News the kid is a sophomore at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California, and all students sign an "Academic Honesty Pledge" that states any cheating will result in expulsion from honors courses. Even the kid’s mom signed the agreement.

But wonder-dad is citing a conflicting school policy that says students won't be punished for cheating until the second time they're caught.

The boy's father…does not dispute that his son copied his English homework from another student, who also was kicked out of the honors class for the offense. But [he] said he believes the punishment is disproportionate to the offense and will jeopardize his son's academic future.

Hey pops, you know what might really jeopardize your son’s future? Cheating.

And to an even greater extent, you teaching him that cheating is okay.

Loophole or not, what he did was wrong, and he’s going to have to learn to live with his screw-up. Maybe next time he'll write his own essay.

What do you think?
