Boulder County has only one police officer designated solely to DUI enforcement and on Tuesday night that police officer, Elizabeth Ward, was arrested for driving under the influence.

In unfortunate timing, just 3 weeks ago Boulder County's Detective Scott Morris was also arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. "Just one incident would have me concerned, so having two is very concerning, absolutely," said Chief Mark Beckner of Boulder County.

In the police reports of that evening, Ward was driving northbound on I-25 at 2 in the morning when an Arvada officer reported that Ward was swerving between the lanes and traveling 40 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. The officer called her in and continued to follow her. Ward then pulled over on her own and when a Thornton police officer reached her he asked why she had pulled over, Ward said, "I'm drunk."

Both Ward and Morris have since been put on a paid administrative leave.
