According to The Coloradoan, a small black bear was just chillin’ in the crook of a tree in west Fort Collins this afternoon. A small crowd had gathered to watch the bear for a while.

Black bears are pretty adorable, but black bears in residential neighborhoods could be a scary combination in the wrong circumstances.

A small crowd has gathered near the intersection of Hampshire Road and Tunis Circle, along with multiple police officers and Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife officers… Wildlife officials have no immediate plans to remove the bear, for it is not currently causing any problems.

Kyle Villers snapped this picture of the bear and says that the animal has now been tranquilized. I’m assuming wildlife officials will be taking it somewhere safe to release it. I heard from another one of my friends that Bauder Elementary School was on lockdown for a little while because of the bear too.

How’s that for a little excitement on a Friday afternoon? Seeing a black bear in a tree outside your house is no everyday occurrence.

What’s the strangest animal encounter you’ve ever had?

I did have a giant praying mantis jump on my head  once, scared the heck out of me! I did have bright red and orange hair at the time, so maybe it just thought I was a big flower.
