Every month some us here at Townsquare Media volunteer some of our time at the Weld Food Bank. Today Shawn Patrick, D Dennison, Susan Moore and myself spent the early afternoon rolling up our sleeves and trying to lend a bit of a hand.

What does the food bank do and how can you help?

According to the Weld Food Bank's website, Greeley has the highest poverty rate in the state at 21.7% and 36.2% of children in Greeley live in poverty.

In Weld County, the annual self-sufficiency income needed for a family of 4 to live without public or private assistance is $42,321. The average yearly income of a Weld Food Bank client is $13,640.

This is where Weld Food Bank comes in. We are here to help those who are in need of food assistance. With the help of volunteers we work tirelessly to serve struggling families, the working poor, the homeless, or any resident in need!

How do people help out the food bank? Donate your money, time or food. Last year community members donated over 25,000 volunteer hours, the food bank collected over 255,000 pounds of food through local food drives, and donors contributed thousands of dollars to their cause.

If you'd like to volunteer or get more info call Sarah Bray, at 970-356-2199 x307 or email her here.

If you'd like to donate food you can work with them to organize a food drive, or you can drop donations off at their facility on H street in Greeley.

If you'd like to donate money you can do it online, by phone or by mail. (P.S. Did you know that for every dollar donated Weld Food Bank can distribute $10 worth of food?)

Today we worked on repackaging a palate of pears for food bank recipients. In the past we've sorted cans, sorted boxed goods, all kinds of fun stuff.
