Beano Takes a Carriage Ride Through Old Town Fort Collins [VIDEO]
So, my family and I had a festive Sunday in Old Town Fort Collins yesterday and I might just have a few suggestions for you if you're looking for something fun to do this holiday season.
What did our night entail? A horse drawn carriage ride, hot chocolate, and a dinner theatre performance of "White Christmas".
First off, the carriage rides through Old Town Fort Collins are amazing. Riding under the lights in Old Town listening the the 'clip-clops' of horse hooves and the jingling of sleigh bells really can't be beat. (Half the fun is watching the wide-eyed wonder of all the people you pass who aren't expecting to see a giant horse in Old Town.)
These are run by the Colorado Carriage Company. They last about 20-30 minutes and they are very fairly priced. We were pulled around by an adorable Belgian Draft Horse named Donald. The carriage driver was very friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Just make sure to bundle up, especially if your headed out on a cold night after dark.
You can check out a quick snippet of my ride in the video below.
After our horse-drawn trek through Old Town we wanted some hot chocolate. We walked around the corner to Starry Night, but they were packed and we couldn't find a table. We ventured a little further down College Avenue and popped into Gelazzi. Now, Gelazzi is known for it's gelato and many frozen concoctions but I discovered what could be the best mug of hot chocolate I've ever had. Seriously.
This was a peanut-butter hot chocolate which was handmade (yes it took a little time to make, but it was worth it!) and delectable. It's actual melted chocolate, not some powdered mix. They had a handful of different flavors and I'll vouch that the hazelnut and the peanut butter are both amazing. (I feel like I now need to go on a mission to find the best places for hot chocolate in town.)
Our next stop was dinner and a show at the Midtown Arts Center (Formerly The Carousel Dinner Theatre). This was the first time I've been here since the change and I was pleasantly surprised with how nice it was. It was beautiful inside, it didn't cost and arm and a leg , and the performance was great.
Everything from the sound, to the sets to the performers was top-notch. The singing and dancing was impressive, not just part of the show.
I think they have a good thing going on over there. After seeing this I might just have to hit up one of their murder-mystery dinners soon.
There you have it a wonderful holiday evening in Fort Collins and I already did all the planning for you and even tested it out first. You're welcome.
I have nothing left to say but "I love this town."
