It's just meat, cheese, and bread, right? A cheeseburger is a tasty thing that constantly makes lists of foods to eat sparingly due to its unhealthy nature.

The cheeseburger has been around for nearly 100 years. Lionel Sternberger of Pasadena, California, takes credit for the cheeseburger, claiming that he invented it at his father's sandwich shop around 1924. Cheeseburgers are still super popular even though Americans have adopted a lot of healthy eating habits.

Why are cheeseburgers so bad? The highly processed white-bread bun is full of calories and carbs without any health benefits. Add that to the fact that the type of fat in ground beef is mostly saturated fat, which raises LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels and you can see the problem. Don't forget the cheese and the toppings that usually add lots of fat, sodium, and calories.

A recent study by Gambling.com compared all the popular fast-food chain cheeseburgers to look for the healthiest one. The research team took the standard cheeseburger option from each chain and analyzed it for sugar, fat, salt, and calorie content (per ounce).

This study found Burger King was no king of health at all, Burger King has the US’s most unhealthy cheeseburger. So, who has the most healthy cheeseburger in the US? Whataburger!

There are three Whataburger locations in Colorado, but you'll have to drive to Colorado Springs. The Whataburger With Cheese is the nation’s healthiest fast-food chain cheeseburger, followed by In-N-Out Burger’s Cheeseburger. Lucky for us, plans are in place for an In-N-Out in Loveland.

The McDonald’s Cheeseburger was #7, alongside Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr.'s Small Cheeseburger.
