Since 1970, the National Forest Service has provided the tree that sits outside the Capitol building each Christmas. In 2020, the tree will come from Colorado.

Score another win in the 'Bragging Rights' column for the Centennial State. In 2020, 'The People's Tree,' as it's known, will come from here.

According to USCapitolChristmasTree.com, each tree for the holidays is either a Spruce, Fir or a Pine; and next year it will come from one of three chosen places in Colorado:

  • Grand Mesa National Forest
  • Uncompahgre National Forest
  • Gunnison National Forest

They'll be narrowing down choices to 12. Then the director of the Capitol Grounds and Arboretum will visit next summer, visiting all the chosen trees for a week before announcing the ONE Colorado tree that will adorn the Capitol lawn in 2020.
