5 Things to Know about the Weld Food Bank’s Hops for Hunger

If you enjoy drinking craft beer and eating good food, then keep reading, because I have the event for you.

I'm talking about Hops for Hunger, the upcoming craft beer festival happening at Boardwalk Park in Windsor on Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m. Along with a wide variety of beer from local breweries, the event will also have food and live music.

But the best part is that proceeds from the event benefit the Weld Food Bank, so every sip you take is for a great cause.

To find out more, I spoke with Weston Edmunds and Stephanie Gausch, the Communications Manager and Chief Development Officer at Weld Food Bank. Here's what I learned:

1. Weld County has a higher hunger rate than other areas of America.

"[Hunger] is pretty significant across the state," said Gausch. "It's a pervasive issue."

While it is an issue across the state, Weld County tends to have a bigger hunger problem than the rest of Colorado, making Hops for Hunger all the more important.

2. The event helps raise awareness for the issue of hunger in Northern Colorado.

While one goal of the event is to provide a fun and beneficial summer activity for Windsor, the Weld Food Bank also hopes to shine a light on local struggles with hunger, which can sometimes be hard to recognize.

"[Its] an opportunity to get the community of Windsor and Northern Colorado involved in the issue of hunger," said Edmunds.

3. There will be over 20 different brewers at the festival this year. 

With the purchase of a ticket, you get a cup and unlimited samples of beer. You also get free BBQ from the JBS Food truck.

If that's not enough, there will also be life-size beer pong and other lawn games...the perfect challenge for you and your friends.

4. Get ready to dance to some live music. 

Southern Fryed will be playing the event this year. Edmunds is certainly a fan of the band: "They're so energetic and engaging. It's going to make for a great evening."

Be sure to bring your lawn chairs, so you can sit back and enjoy the music with a local brew in hand.

5. Tickets are $40 until tomorrow (August 30).

Get your tickets on the Weld Food Bank website now, before the cost rises to $45 tomorrow. Tickets are also available at the door.

If you aren't drinking, designated driver tickets are only $5. Either way, the money allows you to enjoy some quality food and drink, and the Weld Food Bank to feed those in need.
