230 lbs Of Cheese Seized From Colorado Man

I love cheese as much as the next person but 230lbs!? In a story that needs more details, a Colorado man was stopped at the New Mexico port of entry carrying 230lbs of cheese.  The guy was transporting the cheese, that came from Mexico, in coolers in his pick-up. Authorities seized the cheese because it was deemed to be a commercial-size import. Individuals can bring about 10lbs and that is it.

A $300 civil penalty was charged to the man and the cheese was destroyed.

Why destroy it? Why not take it to an orphanage or homeless shelter?
