On Friday a time capsule found underneath the old YMCA building on Oak Street in Fort Collins was opened showing us a little bit about the Fort Collins past. The contents that were well preserved showed us a different time in Fort Collins. A time when women's skirts could be purchased for only $2.44 and a newspaper was just 5¢.According to the Coloradoan it took nearly ten minutes just to open the tightly packed container. But what was inside the container that was undiscovered for more than a century?

“There was a lot more information in there than I thought there would be,” said the downtown development authority project manager Todd Dangerfield. “No wonder it was so heavy.

Inside the capsule was tightly packed with newspapers, postcards, photos, tickets to the old Opera House, a program for the Colorado Ag School and also a letter from the YMCA showing details of the buildings construction.

The Downtown Development Authority purchased the building, which was also the previous Elks building, in 2008 and after discovering the time capsule underneath the building cornerstone have donated it to the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.
