The youngest competitor in the National Spelling Bee, which starts today, is 9-year-old Cameron Keith of Boulder. According to 7News in Denver, Cameron turned 9 in March. Cameron is competing in the National Spelling Bee this week after winning the 2015 Barnes & Noble Regional Spelling Bee back in February at Monarch High School in Louisville by spelling "tilapia" correctly.

A 12-year-old girl from Lakewood is also in the national contest. Sylvie Lamontagne won the state bee  by correctly spelling, "sympatric." I won my local spelling bee back in grade school, but I would have been "annihilated" by the kids at this level.

The 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee starts today with Round One. Competitor will take the preliminary test.  On Wednesday, the on-stage spelling preliminaries begin. The 2015 competition takes place in the Maryland Ballroom at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland
