Being so close to our radio stations, many of the staffers here (including myself) frequented The Duke many a time. It’s sad to see it go.

The Duke of Windsor. Legendary. That’s the word I use. Known most recently as ‘Ricky B’s’, the establishment had its charm, and now… it’s over.

Ricky B’s closed its doors officially recently. Due to a paperwork issue, they lost their liquor license. They stayed open serving soft drinks and food. In the end, it wasn’t enough, and Rick’s ready to retire, anyhow.

I used to work nights here at the station, getting off at 10 pm. I’d often walk over to The Duke for an after work beer. I was always a big fan of Cathy, who ran The Duke. The Duke of Windsor changed into Ricky B’s a few years ago. Rick and Lori opened up a smaller back bar that The Duke had and made that the main bar while using the ‘old Duke’ as a concert venue. I really liked that new smaller bar.

Nice folks, without question. Just last summer, they helped K99 raise over $25,000 for Honor Flight Northern Colorado.

It’s hard to say what will become of the space. Guaranteed, there will never be another ‘The Duke’
