A new phenomenon called "cash mobs" is spreading across the country. A cash mob is an effort to help support local businesses. It's basically a group of people showing up and pledging to spend $20 in a designated local shop. It's an infusion of cash into the cash mob's community that stays in the community.

It's a cool, viral attempt to highlight some of the great stores and products in local communities and help out local economies. Loveland and Fort Collins both have monthly cash mob events and there is one in Windsor tomorrow afternoon.

Basically it's like a mystery shopping trip. You show up knowing your going to drop $20 (or more if you want) in whatever store is chosen by the mob. You show up, find out what store you are going to,  socialize and spend your money.

Windsor's cash mob is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 25th) at 3:30PM. You can see the Facebook event page and RSPV to the Windsor Cash Mob here.

Organizers are asking participants to meet at 5th and Main in Windsor this Saturday shorty before 3:30pm. they will announce the chosen location and then walk to the shop. (They will also be collecting canned goods for the Windsor Food Pantry if you would like to bring some of those along.)

Afterwards they are planning a socializing 'aftermob' at the House of Windsor.

The unofficial rules are:

  • Spend $20 with the chosen business
  • Meet 3 new people
  • Have Fun

Sounds like a good time.

Have you been part of a cash mob yet?
