Today is Veteran's Day and there's so much to celebrate, most especially the fact that our brave men and women in military service fought for our right to live as Americans in this great country.

However, it's still a reality that some continue not to feel safe here, most notably after the 2016 presidential election.  Many were supportive of President-elect Trump but many were not, nervous about the prospect of Muslim-Americans being forced to leave the country and immigrants feeling unwelcome as citizens.

This image is currently going viral, and encouraging many to pop a safety pin on their clothing so that immigrants, refugees, women, the disabled, and many more affected by the rise of hateful rhetoric in America since the election will know they are protected.

According to The Huffington Post, the image calls 'Brexit' to mind, when the UK decided to leave the European Union and major cuts to immigration into the country were called for. Many felt isolated and alone, so the British population began wearing safety pins as a note for solidarity.

Many in the U.S. are wearing a safety pin today to make sure that anyone who feels scared knows that they have an ally in a fellow American. Will you be wearing one?
