Weld County Sheriff is Running for State Senate

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke has announced he will run for the state Senate in 2014. Cooke, who is a republican, has been the sheriff since 2003. According to the Greeley Trib, He will run for the District 13 seat, which Sen. Scott Renfroe of Greeley, must leave due to term limits. District 13 includes most of Weld County, including Eaton, Greeley, Evans, Fort Lupton, Gilcrest, Johnstown, LaSalle, the northern half of Brighton, Milliken and Platteville. Democrat Joe Perez recently announced that he will also run for state senator in District 13.
