If you have a High School student, they are eligible to win a $30,000 scholarship courtesy of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the annual essay contest.

The VFW, back in 1947, started the Voice of Democracy program to provide students grades 9-12 a chance to be heard in regards to democratic ideas and principles. Every year, close to 40,000 students enter the contest to win a $30,000 scholarship. Even though the National winner is the only recipient of the big scholarship, each state will send their (State VFW) winner on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C.

The theme this year is "Why Veterans are Important to our Nation's History and Future."

The contest is open to any student; public, private, charter or home school. The essay must be recorded first (audio) 3-5 minutes in length, put on a CD and then the hand-written essay submitted. But you have to hurry as the November 1 deadline is rapidly approaching.  For complete details click on the link below.

Other national scholarships are also available from a $1,000 up to $16,000. If you want to print off an application, hear last year's winner or any from the past, to give you an idea of what's expected, just click on the big red link below.
