Just one year after threatening to kill officers with a hatchet, a transient man has been arrested for kicking an officer in the face, among other allegations.

Last summer, 27-year-old Anthony Gaona was arrested for threatening Colorado State University police officers with a hatchet on campus - a second-degree assault offense to which he was sentenced 2 years probation and drug court enrollment. This past Wednesday, Gaona had yet another brush with the law, also directly involving law enforcement officers.

Gaona allegedly walked into a hobby store on Harmony Road at around 3:30 p.m. to ask for a lighter. When an employee said he didn't have one, Gaona - who was reportedly under the influence of any given substance - became verbally abusive, the Coloradoan reports.

The first responding officer found Gaona sitting by a creek behind the hobby store and "chugged a 40-ounce bottle of beer" when he saw the officer. Upon the second officer's arrival, Gaona ran across the creek and led officers on a brief foot pursuit.

When officers had to deploy a Taser after a contact struggle, Gaona attempted to grab the device and kicked one officer in the face and another in the leg. As he was being transported and treated in an ambulance, he spat on another officer, causing a paramedic to get stuck with a needle.

Gaona was arrested and booked into Larimer County Jail on suspicion of 4 counts of felony second-degree assault and a single count of disorderly conduct for the use of offensive language. The Coloradoan notes that that single count is rarely issued.

Bond is set at $10,000 for Gaona's case, and he is due in court next Thursday.
