National Cuddle Up Day is observed annually on January 6.

The low temperature this morning was minus18 (or close to that) in various places in Northern Colorado. Bitter cold canceled some schools making this is a perfect day to stay inside and cuddle up. What a terrific way to stay warm and reap the health benefits of cuddling on National Cuddle Up Day. Whether it’s with your dog, a child or spouse there are so many benefits to cuddling.

Cuddling releases oxytocin. This hormone is known to some as the "cuddle hormone" because it is released when people snuggle up and has tremendous health benefits. Besides giving us warm and fuzzy feelings, oxytocin also helps reduce heart disease, reduces blood pressure, stress, and anxiety.

Don’t have someone to cuddle up with?  Make an appointment for a massage. Studies show massage provides similar benefits.

So, cuddle up with someone you love. Use #NationalCuddleUpDay
