Do you think you could pass a citizenship test for our country? You might be surprised, Newsweek magazine has published a survey that shows just how ignorant some of us are.  They gave a standard U.S. citizenship test to 1,000 American adults and guess how many failed?

Thirty-eight percent! Yes, Newsweek found that over 1/3 of Americans could not qualify to become a citizen of their own country. that's scary stuff.

The citizenship survey is 100 questions across 5 categories: American government, systems of government, rights and responsibilities, American history, and integrated civics.

Some shocking findings from the survey:

  • 29% couldn’t name the current vice-president
  • 73% couldn’t correctly say why America fought the Cold War
  • 44% were unable to define the Bill of Rights
  • 6% couldn’t circle Independence Day on a calendar.
  • 80% didn’t know who the president was during World War I
  • 67% weren’t aware that the U.S. has a capitalist economic system.
