Since 1999, if you think of Christmas lights in Greeley, you probably think of the 'Greeley Grizwalds'. They blanket their home with over 135,000 lights and have become a local attraction for anyone looking for elaborate light displays.

We have some bad news if you were looking forward to their display for 2013, it's not going to happen. (And it may never happen again.)

According to the Greeley Tribune, head of the 'Greeley Grizwald' family, Mike Medhurst, severely hurt his knee, had to have surgery, and he can't put up the massive amount of decorations for the 2013 holiday. This will be the first time in 15 years that his house won't have a stream of cars pulling through his cul-de-sac at 50th Avenue Court to "ooh" and "ahh" at the spectacle of his light and music display.

We're all bummed that the tradition won't continue this year, but major knee surgery is a pretty valid excuse and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

To make this news even worse for fans of his display, he said he just may stop doing it altogether. He told the Tribune, that he plans to talk to his family and the neighbors that have to put up with all the lookey-lous before making a decision about next year and beyond.

Hey Mike, thank you for your years of hard work to create a little magic every Christmas season, we all appreciate it. Best wishes in getting your knee in tip-top shape again. If you decide that you will no longer continue your decorating tradition, we'll be bummed, but we'll understand.

That just means that someone else in town will need to step up and try and fill our new-found Greeley Grizwald void.
