So in the wake of the news that Hostess is going to shut down their factories and that there will be no more Twinkies, so I went to the store to get some. I figured, "Hey, since Twinkies keep for a while I will buy a couple boxes for a rainy day." Apparently everyone else had the same idea. I went from store to store to store looking for those little yellow sponge cakes and could not find them! I felt like Woody Harrelson's character from 'Zombieland' in search for them except I didn't have to fight zombies while I searched. Though, some shoppers were walking around kind of like zombies.

I decided I was going to do one more stop at Safeway before I gave up. I walked in and they were sold out of boxes. Dammit! But to my luck I found four packs of 2 and snatched them up. I am going to hold on to them because one of two things is going to happen.

One: Twinkies are going to become such a hot item that I will be able to sell them on eBay someday and pay for my children's education and maybe get me a new car.

Or two: I can tell my children about the Great Twinkie Epidemic of 2012 and when they ask what they were like I can pull out a pack and let them try them.

Probably the latter is going to happen but hey, here is to dreaming.

In all seriousness, it is a shame that Hostess went under but more than likely those delicious snack cakes will be bought by a different company and continued to be made. They won't be the same and who knows maybe they will be different enough that people will want the original Hostess cakes.
