The claim made in one of the Avengers previews claiming it to be “The greatest superhero movie of all time,” might just be right on.

I hit up a midnight screening of the new Marvel movie last night, and it did not disappoint!

Now, this is coming from a self-proclaimed comic book geek who has liked most of the other recent Marvel super hero movies (with the exception of Ghost Rider, either of the Hulk movies and Daredevil), but this is one summer blockbuster that lived up to the hype.

Seeing Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury on the same screen is downright amazing. (And I'm sure it cost a pretty penny to make it happen too.)

The dynamic between Robert Downey Jr. and just about every actor in the movie could be used by others as a lesson in on-screen chemistry. Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal of Bruce Banner (the Hulk) was, by far, my favorite Hulk to date. And believe it or not, the big green monster is actually the source of a few great moments of comic relief.

In fact, there was a lot of humor in the movie, not enough to seem too over-the-top or corny, but enough to lighten the mood and get you laughing once in a while.

There is a lot of action and a lot of explosions and a lot of fighting, but don’t worry, if you’re not into that sort of thing the movie still paces very well and doesn’t feel nearly as long as it is. There’s always something happening.

It feels like even people not familiar with the Marvel can still get a kick out of 'The Avengers', but anyone who are familiar are treated to lots of little details paying homage to, and alluding too other parts of the Marvel Universe.

PS - Make sure you stick around at least five-minutes or so through the credits. You get a sneak peak at where the franchise is taking the story next. (I don’t want to give it away, but you can find out who they reveal here.)

My conclusion? The Avengers is well worth the price of a ticket, in fact, I may have to go see it again. And it was well worth me being out until 3:30am last night.

I went in just waiting to be let down by the high expectations I’d created, but...they did it. They actually made a great Avengers movie!
