hulu plus may require you to get cable

I got rid of cable for the simple fact that I have Netflix and I usually watch all of my current shows on Hulu Plus because I work nights and can't watch tv. Now this news from Hulu saying that they may start requiring you to show proof that you pay for cable. Doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose of Hulu Plus?
