Some People Actually Believed That 37 People Overdosed on Pot and Died In Colorado Yesterday

I think publications like The Onion and The Daily Currant are freakin’ awesome. Taking the most off the wall things you could possibly think of, and writing about them like they are real news stories. The problem is, sometimes they will write a story that is fake, like all of their other stuff, and some idiot (for lack of better terms) believes it.

First off, let’s get this out of the way: Not a single person has ever died from a weed overdose… EVER!!! According to one frequently cited study, a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times the amount of THC in a joint in order to be at risk of dying.

Now that we have that out of the way, The Daily Current website’s “About” section states: “Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world.”

They are the people who wrote the article yesterday titled “Marijuana Overdoses Kill 37 in Colorado On First Day of Legalization.” The article quoted fake doctors, and even used big terms, while explaining the death toll could go as high as 200, maybe 300.

So instead of reading into this possibly being a fake, I know of at least 7 or 8 of my Facebook friends alone who posted this to their pages freaking out! One guy took to YouTube, and hundreds of others wrote about their disgust on Twitter, but did I mention it was fake?!

Moral of this story: Again, no one died from smoking weed. No one is going to die from smoking weed. So, please help spread this on to your friends so they can stop looking like idiots on social media.
