If your daily commute takes you on Shields Street in Fort Collins, you are going to want to find an alternate route this afternoon (Tuesday, May 24, 2016). Shields Street between Troutman Parkway and Horsetooth Road is currently closed due to a natural gas leak. While fire and utility crews work on the issue, traffic is being diverted through and around the surrounding neighborhoods.

According to the Coloradoan, the leak was reported a little before 11:00 a.m., when an auger on a city truck struck a low-pressure gas line. The repairs are expected to take several hours leading into the afternoon rush hour. According to those involved, there is no serious threat to public safety due to the gas leak.
