REI is skipping Black Friday this year so its employees can play outside on trails, mountains, and the like.

The closure comes in addition to the day off employees get on Thanksgiving.

Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is one of the biggest days of the year for shopping, but the outdoorsy co-op will close all of its 143 locations that day.

The retailer also says its employees will be paid to get outside and be active, explaining on their website how they believe "being outside makes our lives better."

According to CNN Money, Black Friday has been one of REI's top sales days in years past. But the company doesn't seem to be worried - they're getting a lot of publicity for it, which is definitely a plus for business.

"We're a different kind of company - and while the rest of the world is fighting it out in the aisles, we'll be spending our day a little differently," said REI. "We're choosing to opt outside, and want you to come with us."
